TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ Tuskegee women's basketball earned their second win of the season with a 74-62 win in the 2023-24 home opener inside the Daniel "Chappie" James Center on Monday evening. The Golden Tigers overcame a halftime deficit, using the second half to pull away from the Rams in the contest.
Mobile jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first minute of the game, holding on to the lead for the entire first quarter, as Tuskegee shot just 7-for-18 (38.9 percent) from the field, trailing 18-15 after one. The Golden Tigers took their first lead of the game with 8:20 at 21-20 left in the second as senior
Arielle McElroy hit her first three-pointer. The long-range jumper helped 7-0 run to take a 25-20 edge with just over seven minutes to play.
The Rams continued to battle back, tying the game at 28-28 at the 4:28 mark, and later retook the lead and extended it to seven points after a three at the end of the half, seeing the Rams take a 36-29 halftime lead.
After finding themselves down as many as 12 points in the third, Tuskegee took control of the game, utilizing a 9-0 run to come within one possession, before a three from junior
Brittney Bolin gave Tuskegee a 48-46 lead, the first lead of the second half. Following the run, the Golden Tigers led for the remainder of the game, extending stretching their edge to as many as 12 in the 74-62 final.
McElroy led TU with 19 points on the night, going 6-for-12 on the night from floor in addition to seven rebounds, four assists and a steal while playing all 40 minutes in the contest. Bolin finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in 36 minutes, followed by forward
Aaliyah Austin who added 13 points, five rebounds and two blocks in 25 minutes.
Tuskegee controlled the rebounding game, 46-37, over the Rams, and shot 38.2 percent (26-for-68) from the field, 14.3 percent (2-for-14) from three, and 57.1 percent (8-for-14) from the free throw line in the win.
