TUSKEGEE, Ala. __ The Tuskegee University women's basketball team and new head coach
Chiante Wester have officially announced the full schedule for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Wester and her program will begin the year with a three of their four non-conference games, competing in the annual Gulf South SIAC Crossover, taking on West Alabama (Nov. 11) on and West Georgia (Nov. 12) inside the Coliseum in Carrolton, Ga.
Tuskegee will then host Mobile on Monday, for their 2023 home opener, the lone out of conference game held inside of the Daniel "Chappie" James Center.
Tuskegee begins its 19-game conference schedule away from home, facing off against Fort Valley State on November 25. The Golden Tigers will host seven home games during league play, with just one on the front half of the schedule, and the remaining six in January and February.
Tuskegee is coming off a successful 2022-23 campaign under the old regime, concluding with a 26-4 overall record and undefeated 20-0 record in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play, SIAC Regular Season and Tournament Championships, and earned a second appearance in Women's NCAA South Region Tournament in three years.
Losing a staple of key players, highlighted by two-time SIAC Player of the Year
Ashiala Jackson and two-time SIAC Defensive Player of the Year
JuToreyia Willis, the Golden Tigers will look to mix the new staff and five newcomers with key returners from last year's team.
Notable returning players for the Golden Tigers include the top three returning scorers from last season in the guard trio of
Sumaiyah Abdur-Rahim,
Brittney Bolin, and
Arielle McElroy. Bolin is the lone double figure scorer returning at 10.2 points per game along with 3.4 rebounds, and 3.3 assists, while McElroy and Abdur-Rahim averaged 8.8 and 8.2 points respectively last season.
