Tuskegee finishes third on both sides at weekend meet hosted by Fort Valley State

BRUNSWICK, Ga. I In their second meet in consecutive weekends, the Golden Tigers finished in third place on the men's side with 68 points, as well as third on the women's side with 57 points during competition in a meet hosted by Fort Valley State in Brunswick. 

Sundiata Washington (Conyers, Ga.) led the way for the Golden Tigers in the field events, taking home first place in the high jump with a distance of 1.93 meters, while teammate Jireh Jones (Perryville, Md.) finished second in the long jump (6.22m) and in fourth (1.77m).
 
In the throws, Drake Hudson took home second in shot put and fourth in the discus throw, with marks of 11.32 meters and 34.41 meters respectively, while Justin Scott (Cleveland, Ohio) was a close fifth in the shot put at 10.26 meters and finished fourth in the discus at 31.90 meters. Diallo Patterson (Fayetteville, Ga.) also earned a pair of top ten finishes at the meet with sixth place in the shot put (9.62m) and seventh in the discus throw (29.13m).

Quinton Godfrey (Fairhope, Ala.) continued his string of strong performances with third place finishes in the 100-meter and 400-meter events with times of 10.75 seconds and 51.15 seconds respectively, earning six points for each.
 
Six other Golden Tigers competed in the 100 and 400-meter events, including Jones who earned a top-10 finish in the 400 (54.39s) and a top-15 in the 100 (11.69s) and Justin Hunt (Augusta, Ga.), who finished 11th with a time of 11.46 seconds in the 100, and 15th with a time of 57.45 seconds in the 400-meter. Meanwhile teammates Kristopher Burke (Milwaukee, Wis.), Reggie Snead (Aurora, Co.), and Jonathan Stocks (Matthews, N.C.) all earned top-15 finishes in their running events.
 
In the 4x100 relays, the group of Dennis Bailey (Savannah, Ga.), Godfrey, Jamarri Brown (Riviera Beach, Fla.), and Jury Sims (Douglasville, Ga.) took home fourth with a time of 44.88 seconds to gain six points, while the 4x400 group led by Victor Cross (Conyers, Ga.), Jones, and Stocks finished fourth with a time of 3:57.47.

The women's side was led by three top ten finishers in the 100-meter run with M'Kenzii Frazier (Laurel, Miss.) finishing sixth with a time of 13.13 seconds, Cierra Bowman (Millville, N.J.) in seventh at 13.18 seconds, and Makayla Richardson (Linden, Ala.) in eighth with a time of 13.25 seconds. Teammates Ja'Nyah Jenkins (Houston, Texas) Haliah Stargell (LaGrange, Ga.) also competed in the event, with times of 13.83 and 13.89 seconds respectively.
 
Meanwhile, Mattea Parker (Dayton, Ohio) and Saniya Keeton (Harker Heights, Texas) had success in the 400-meter event with times of 1:11.16 and 1:13.50, earning three points combined, followed by a fourth place finish in the 1500-meter run for Angelique Johnson (Reserve, La.) with a time of 6:28.12, good for four points.
 
In the 4x100 relay, the team of Bowman, Frazier, Keeton, and Faith Shelton (Miami, Fla.) earned six points in their third place finish (53.26s), while the 400-meter squad included Parker, Richardson, Kailyn Thrash (Chicago, Ill.), and Stargell earned eight points with a second place finish and time of 4:49.52.
 
Jenkins also bode well in the long jump event, earning fifth at 4.88 meters and seventh in the triple jump at 9.70 meters, followed by Shelton who finished fourth in the triple at 10.33 meters and seventh in the long jump at 4.71 meters.
 
Both Anniyha Bren (Newport News, Va.) and Hannah Williams (Atlanta, Ga.) finished well in the throwing events, with Bren throwing for 25.27 meters in the discus throw for a fourth place finish and 7.74 meters in the shot put, good for sixth. Williams took home seventh in the shot put with a distance of 7.64 meters and eighth in the discus at 21.15 meters.

Tuskegee will return to competition on Friday, April 9 as they return to the state of Georgia for a meet hosted by Albany State, their final meet before the SIAC Track and Field Championship.
