How It Happened (Central State)

1st Set

  • The Marauders took control from the opening serve, going on a 6-1 run out of the gate and eventually building a lead as high as 12 (22-10) as they coasted to an opening set triumph (25-14).

2nd Set

  • TU started the second set by forcing two consecutive attack errors by CSU to go ahead 2-0.

  • Central responded with four unanswered and five of the next six points.

  • The two sides traded points for a while, but the Marauders pulled away late to garner a two-nothing advantage (25-17).

3rd Set

  • The first ten points of the third produced a stalemate with each club picking up five apiece.

  • Central proceeded to go on a 7-2 rally to pull in front by a count of 12-7.

  • Tuskegee would cut the deficit to two with three straight points but that was the closest they would get as Central State went on to win by eight (25-17).

How It Happened (LeMoyne-Owen)

1st Set

  • The opener was chock full of ties as both teams were evenly matched throughout, resulting in 12 deadlocks.

  • Things seemed to look bleak as LOC took a 21-18 upper-hand, but TU knotted the score at 21 and then rattled off four-in-a-row to win the set (25-20).

2nd Set

  • It was more of the same as far as both squads being evenly matched, seeing ten ties within the first 24 points.

  • Tuskegee proceeded to explode for seven unanswered and 11 of the next 13 to turn this one into a rout, going from a 12-12 tie to 23-14 in the blink of an eye.

  • LeMoyne-Owen nearly crawled all the way back, making it within three at one point (24-21) but ultimately TU held on (25-21).

3rd Set

  • The Magicians owned the first 15 points or so, holding a 9-6 lead.

  • Following LOC taking a 16-14 lead, LOC and TU swapped points on 15 straight rallies to keep the deficit at two, 23-21 LeMoyne-Owen.

  • The hosts never made it to set point as three kills from Erin Jackson over the final five Tuskegee points put an exclamation point on the victory as Coach Perkins got her career collegiate coaching victory (26-24).

Tuskegee Top Performers

  • Santana Lewis picked up her sixth career double-double in the win over LeMoyne-Owen, posting 33 assists and 11 digs. Lewis tied for the team lead in digs during game one (9) while averaging 8.17 assists per set for the day.

  • Erin Jackson also had a career night at LOC, contributing her first career double-double with a 12-kill, 10-dig match. She was the Tigerettes' top attacker in the opener, smacking a team-best seven kills.

  • Jazmine Green was a defensive machine in the nightcap, producing 23 digs and averaging just under 11 per set in the doubleheader.

Notes
  • Central State dominated the serving game, notching seven aces while shutting out the Tigerettes.
  • The Marauders also held the TU offense in check, forcing the Crimson and Old Gold to post a -.038 hitting percentage.
  • Tuskegee more than doubled-up LeMoyne-Owen in kills, piling up 40 to the opponents' 19.
  • Where the Tigerettes won at the point of attack, the Magicians dominated at the net, knocking down 11 blocks while TU had none.

Coach Perkins and her ladies will look to notch wins numbers two and three on Saturday as they tangle with Kentucky State (9 a.m.) and Lane (3:30 p.m.).
