GULF SHORES, Ala. - The Tuskegee University softball season opened in Gulf Shores as they played Union University. Tuskegee lost the season opener 1-4 to Union University.

The Golden Tigers pounded out eight hits in the game. Freshman Kayla Wright was the first Golden Tiger to get on base following an error from Union first base Grace White. Jayme Marbury and Myracle Hawkins were able to get on base second inning but Hawkins was stranded as Marbury fell out at third 3b to the Union's shortstop. The next two Golden Tigers were retired in order.

Tuskegee's next two hits of the game came in the fifth inning as Marbury singled to right center and immediately following, Hawkins advanced her to second after a bunt. 

Union got on the board first in the first inning after a hit from Senior Gabby Morris advanced sophomore Alyssa Ward and Sophomore Grace White home, taking a 2-0 lead.

With one out in the fifth inning, Union Senior G. Morris hit a home run, giving them a 4-0 lead.

Hawkins singled to left field which allowed Marbury to advance to second. Freshman Makayla Betts scored the first run of the season for the Golden Tigers.

Tuskegee will face off against Auburn-Montgomery at 2:00 p.m. CST, February 1st in the Gulf Shores Invitational. The Golden Tigers are scheduled to play Delta State University on Sunday February 2nd.
