Tuskegee falls to Paine College in a close game 55-54 at Chappie James Arena. Morgan Kirk led the team in scoring with 10 points, shooting 60% (3-5).
The Golden Tigers started off strong, getting an early lead in the first quarter 4-1 with 8:30. The Lions of Paine College went on a run that gave Paine College a seven point lead by the end of the opening quarter 17-10.
The Golden Tigers attempted to cut into Paine College's lead at the start of the second quarter with a layup by Lena Yoonis bringing the deficit to 5. Yoonis scored seven points in the contest with six rebounds.
Paine extended their lead into double digits 22-12 midway through the second quarter from a three pointer by Paine College guard Antonisha Davis. Davis led the game in scoring with 14 points, shooting 55% (5-9) from the field.
The Golden Tigers found themselves down by 12 by halftime with a score 37-25 after a buzzer beater layup by PC forward Desiree Tyner.
The Golden Tigers went on a run that spanned the whole quarter with seven points coming by way of free throw from various Golden Tigers. Tuskegee brought Paine College's lead down to five 43-38 by the end of the third quarter after a pair of made free throws by India Blakely
The Lions started the fourth quarter by extending their lead to 14 as the Golden Tigers saw themselves down 52-38 with 7:15.
Back to back three pointers from Willingham-King and Blakely brought Paine College's lead to eight (52-44). Two trips to the free-throw line by way of Blakely resulted in three points cutting the deficit to five.
A 5 footer from Willingham-King tied the ball game with a 1:50 to go in the fourth 52-52. Paine College guard Victoria Jackson turned the ball over with 1:36 remaining allowing Ashiala Jackson to take the lead with a layup giving the Golden Tigers the lead 54-52.
Paine College Keondre Archie hit a game winning buzzer beater from beyond the arc in order to clinch the win over the Golden Tigers.
The Golden Tigers (7-8, 3-3 SIAC West) will host Spring Hill (8-3, 4-1 SIAC ) in a double header on January 13th. Tip off is set for 3:00 pm CST.
