Tuskegee University Defeats Spring HIll

Ashiala Jackson led her team to a 72-67 victory over the Spring Hill Badgers in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) match on Sunday afternoon at Chappie James Arena.

The Golden Tigers looked to get back to .500 on the season after this game was postponed due to weather. 

Jackson acquired her first double-double of the season with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and four steals. Jackson had the hot hand shooting 40% (5-11) from the floor. Along with Jackson's double-double effort, Lena Yoonis led the Golden Tigers in scoring with 13 points and four rebounds and shot 55% (4-9) from the field. 

Spring Hill forward Tiffany Valentine led her team with 17 points, shooting 70% (7-10) on the floor. Valentine scored 11 points in the first half. 

The Golden Tigers found themselves tied up 35-35 at the half after a pair of made free-throws from SHC guard Lindi Debilzan.

In the third quarter, the Golden Tigers started to pull away with a 8-2 run to closeout the third quarter 55-49. 

Tamia Willingham-King scored a jumper from a steal by Morgan Kirk to break a 43-43 tie and give the Golden Tigers the lead then scored a jumper after grabbing a rebound to bump the score 47-43 with 4:12 in the third quarter. 

Willingham-King finished the afternoon with 11 points, four rebounds, and two steals.

The Spring Hill Badgers shot 40.9% (27-66) from the field. The Golden Tigers shot 37% (27-73). The Golden Tigers had their largest lead late in the third quarter 55-47 after a pair of made free throws by Normesha Pitts

The Golden Tigers (8-8, 4-3 SIAC West)  will host Miles College (9-3, 5-1 SIAC ) in a double header on January 18th. Tip off is set for 5:30 pm CST.
