JACKSON, TN -- A huge fourth quarter lifted the Tuskegee women's basketball team to a 51-48 win over Lane College on Saturday in Jackson, Tennessee. Shelle Daniels led with a double-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds, and two steals.
Much like last Monday's win over LeMoyne-Owen College, redshirt sophomore Ashiala Jackson provided a double figure point performance, scoring 10 points, seven rebounds and a steal.
The Lane College Dragons moved to an early lead, scoring seven of the first 10 points in the contest. Jackson changed momentum early with a jumper to make the score 5-7 from an assist by India Blakely coming out of a timeout with 4:54 in the 1st. The Dragons and Golden Tigers kept it close and ended the opening quarter tied at 13.
The Golden Tigers found themselves trailing by seven coming out of half 28-21. The Golden Tigers fought through the quarter to tie the game at 34 with 3:14 in the 3rd quarter, scoring almost all of their points in the paint or by free throws.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Golden Tigers found themselves up by seven points. Despite being outscored 12-8 in the fourth quarter, they managed to keep the lead. Jackson closed out the game after splitting free throws with three seconds remaining to extend the lead 51-48.
The Golden Tigers shot a season low at 21.8 percent from the field (12 of 55) with 6 assists. Junior guard Tamia Willingham-King made 4-of-11 field goals and finished with 10 points, five rebounds, and two blocks in the contest.
Tuskegee won its fourth straight game and improved to 11-8 overall, 7-3 in the SIAC; Lane College lost its third game in a row and falls to 4-12, 3-6 SIAC.
The Golden Tigers will host Central State University on February 1st. Tip-off is set for 1:00 pm CST.
