The Tuskegee University baseball team watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 13-1 loss to Columbus State on Wednesday afternoon at Paterson Field. The non-conference defeat snapped TU four-game winning streak.
CSU took the lead on a double in the first inning while the Golden Tigers struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Cougars, giving up 13 runs. Columbus State fired up the offense in the first inning, when Frank Wager doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. CSU added six more runs in the ninth inning. Their biggest big inning was driven by by Garrett Kirkwood, Robert Brooks, and Connor Kirley, walks by Matthew McDade and Kendall Ford, and a single by Dane Bullock. Tyler Cadenhead led things off on the pitcher's mound for the visiting team. He surrendered zero runs on zero hits over two innings, striking out one and walking zero.
Emperor Williams was on the pitcher's mound for TU and allowed two hits and one run over three innings, striking out one.
Joshua Lewis, Ronald McGhee, Tayari Albright, Corey Stallings, Ryan Martin, and Keldric Burton each collected one hit to lead Tuskegee University . Tuskegee University didn't commit a single error in the field. Burton had the most chances in the field with six. The Cougars totaled 14 hits in the game. Grant Berry, Bullock, Ford, and Brooks all collected multiple hits.
Tuskegee opens a four-game series with Spring Hill College on Saturday with a double-header at noon. The set will conclude Sunday with the same format.
