Women's basketball ends season with best record in six years

The 2018-19 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division champion Tuskegee University women's basketball team ended their regular season with its best record since the 2012-13 year, with a 66-52 victory over Kentucky State Monday night in Frankfurt, Ky. The Golden Tigers leave the Midwest road swing having won both games, including a victory over Central State last Saturday all while ending the regular season on a three-game winning streak. The 19 wins is a tie for the most since the 2012-13 squad that finished a perfect 16-0 mark in the conference. 

Alexis Carter dominated the Thorobreds playing all 40 minutes and scored 26 points along with 14 rebounds. She completes the regular season earning her 12th double-double of the season and 15th time scoring in double figures through 19 games. Jade Wilson added 10 points and six boards while Normesha Pitts added nine points. Shelle Daniels, who scored eight points on the night also hauled in 10 boards, her sixth time this season with double figure rebounds.

The Golden Tigers controlled the paint outscoring KSU 26-18 and had more second chance points (19-7) than its opponent. 

After trailing 18-16 in the first period, TU outscored KSU 14-8 to take a 30-26 lead into halftime. With 1:48 left in the third period, J. Wilson's jumper and a free throw by Eleana Daniels gave the Golden Tigers its biggest lead of the game at 42-33. Kentucky State's Amani Williams made a three pointer with 9:38 left to play, which narrowed TU's lead to six points, but the Thorobreds would not get any closer.

At 19-6 overall and 14-3 in conference play, the Golden Tigers will now shift its attention to the 2019 SIAC Basketball Tournament in Birmingham, Ala. at Bill Harris Arena. TU has a first round bye and will not play until Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 1:00 p.m. They will face the winner of Game 2 which features #4E vs. #5W.  Fans can purchase tickets by visiting the league's championship central
