Women's basketball claims SIAC West Division title on Senior Night

In her first season as head coach, Trelanne Powell and the Tuskegee University women's basketball team has claimed the 2018-19 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) West Division Title. The Golden Tigers defeated Spring Hill College Monday night 63-51 inside the Chappie James Center.  Its the first division crown since the 2012-13 season.

The evening was more fitting as Jade Wilson led all scorers with 21 points and eight rebounds on Senior Night as TU played its home finale for seniors Alexis Carter, Tyler EverettKierra Hall and J. Wilson.

Tuskegee opened up a 7-0 lead before a Walker jumper netted the first two points of the night for SHC (10-14, 6-9 SIAC). The Badgers would get back within three points on two occasions in the first quarter, but the Tigers would close the quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 21-10 lead after the opening 10 minutes.

The Golden Tigers jumped out to a 21-10 first quarter lead and never looked back as they never trailed in the contest. They did however get outscored in the second period 11-5, which left TU with 26-21 halftime lead. Skegee out performed the Lady Badgers with second chance points 22-3, points off turnovers 27-13 and points in the paint 50-20. 

Carter earned her 12th double-double of the season with 19 points and 14 rebounds to also go along with seven blocked shots. She now has 76 on the season. Shelle Daniels added 13 points and five rebounds and three steals while K. Hall chipped in six points and six assists. 

Tuskegee is now 17-6 overall and 12-3 in the conference which also includes a 13-2 mark on its home floor. The Golden Tigers are three wins shy of passing their best record in six years when they finished 19-8

TU will takeoff for a Midwest road trip Saturday with its first stop at Central State in Wilberforce, Ohio before ending the road swing at Kentucky State next Monday.
