Game Recap: Softball |

Golden Tigers opened 2019 season at Gulf Shores Invite

The Tuskegee University softball team displayed the 2019 edition of its unit this afternoon at the Gulf Shores Invitational located in Gulf Shores, Ala and dropped their first two games of the season. The tournament that runs through Sunday features seven different opponents for the Golden Tigers.

In game one, TU gave up a pair of runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth and fifth innings respectively, falling short 4-0 to Lee University.  Chelsea Mowery picked up the loss for Skegee. She pitched all seven innings and struck out one batter.

Freshman Kayla Wright earned one of the team's two hits. She was 1-of-3 on the day. Mowery was the other Golden Tiger to reach the bases.

Game two featured much more of a thriller, but still didn't favor TU as they allowed West Georgia to come from behind and claim a 5-4.

After trailing 3-1 in the top of the fourth inning, CeCe Tennessee doubled to right center, which advanced a runner to third on the throwing error that scored, Kayla Wright Camira Sanders and Chelsea Mowery. The Wolves tied it up in the bottom of the second on a Madison Slappey triple that pushed across Raven Smith.

Lexie Stohr and Madison Chambers each singled home runs in the third inning to take a 3-1 lead, but Tuskegee tagged UWG starter Lexi Close for a three spot in their half of the fourth to take a 4-3 lead.

Mowery, Lawrence and Tennessee all finished with one hit each.

Tuskegee will play three game Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m. against West Alabama. Immediately following, Skegee will play Delta State at 11:30 a.m. TU will then cap things off with a later afternoon game against Mississippi College at 430 p.m.
