Tuskegee scored 14 second half points and held Central State below 50 yards rushing to earn its second straight win of the season in a 21-10 victory over the Mauraders. The victory improves TU to 3-1 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play.
Skegee struck first with a 49-yard touchdown run from
Taurean Taylor. The score took place at the 5:08 mark of the first quarter, taking up 6-plays on 73 yards. On the first possession of the second quarter, the Maurders responded with one yard TD run by Derell Williams, to tie the game at 7-7.
After halftime, CSU briefly took the lead 10-3 after TU turned the ball over in its opponent's territory. Skegee forced CSU backwards on four plays for negative eight yards, which forced a field goal early in the third quarter.
Ladarell Pettway gave the Golden Tigers its lead back on the ensuing possession when he returned a 35-yard punt back to the house, giving TU a 14-10 lead.
Peyton Ramzy broke things open early in the fourth quarter after being on the receiving end of a 13-yard pass from
Steven Hodges, making the score 21-10.
Ahmad Deramus led the Golden Tigers on the ground with 68 yards with his longest run being 22 yards.
Taurean Taylor added 67 yards and one touchdown.
Davoris Thomas paced TU defensively with nine tackles.
Ricky Norris and
Ken Hike Jr. chipped in seven with Hike Jr. also earning three passes broken up.
Carl Matthews and Zha'Niko Norris both had an interception apiece with
Shaun McGee getting the team's only sack
Tuskegee will face Lane College next Saturday in the annual Whitewater Classic. Kickoff from Phenix City is set for 5 p.m. EST.
