The Tuskegee University women's basketball team held Lane College to three points in the fourth period and came away with a 45-40 road victory in Jackson (Tenn.) Monday afternoon inside the Lane College Gymnasium. The win provided TU with a split during its road swing that featured games at LeMoyne-Owen College and Lane.
Alexis Carter was the only Golden Tiger in double figures scoring 18 points, grabbing 17 rebounds, eight blocked shots along with two assists and a pair of steals. It would mark her ninth double-double of the season and third in a row.
Jade Wilson scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds while
Normesha Pitts chipped in seven points.
Defensively is how Skegee got things done holding its opponent to only seven percent from three point range on 1-for-13 shooting. Lane shot 18 percent from the field in the second half alone. The Golden Tigers produced more second chance points than the Dragons (10-8) as well as points in the paint (16-12).
Both team went into halftime tied at 23-23, but LC would open the second half with four early points to take an early 27-23 lead in the third period. In fact, TU was outscored 14-9 that very same period. The fourth period would be a lot different when Skegee outscored the Dragon 13-3 with Carter scoring nine of the team's points in the final quarter.
Antrice McCoy paced Lane with 16 points.
Tuskegee travels to Mobile to take on Spring Hill College Thursday, Jan. 24. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m.
