Shelle Daniels scored 21 points and pulled down 16 rebounds but it would not be enough to get past LeMoyne-Owen College Saturday night falling 71-69 in Memphis Tennessee. The loss snaps a three-game winning streak and gives the Tuskegee University women's basketball team an overall record of 11-4 and 6-2 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play.
Both teams played to a 13-13 tie after the first period but it was LOC that ended up taking a one-point lead into halftime. TU led by as many as 16 points in the third period and had its most production scoring a league-season high 27 points to LeMoyne's 14. The Golden Tigers would end up getting outscored by 14 points in the fourth quarter, which allowed the Magicians to secure the come from behind victory.
Skegee dominated with second chance points outscoring LOC 26-4 and points in the paint 42-34, however they allowed LeMoyne to come away with more bench points (14-2) and points off turnovers (21-7).
Alexis Carter posted her eighth double-double of the season pouring in 16 points, 12 rebounds and six blocked shots.
Normesha Pitts added 15 points and six boards including two three pointers. The team's only two from beyond the arc on the night.
Jade Wilson was also in double figures with 11 points and six rebounds. The double-double by Daniels would be her third of the season.
Neither team shot the ball very well from three point range as TU was only able to connect on 22.2 percent of theirs on 2-of-9 shooting. LeMoyne shot 23.8 percent from behind the arc.
Dana Gettis, who scored 25 points against the Golden Tigers last season, put up a game-high 24 and nine boards to lead LOC.
