Softball ends season at SIAC Softball Tournament

The Tuskegee University softball team jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead but could not manufacture anymore runs beyond that falling 11-3 in five innings, thus ending its season at the 2018 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Softball Tournament Friday afternoon in Albany (Ga.). The Golden Tigers started the day off in the winners bracket before dropping an 8-3 decision to Kentucky State earlier in the day.  That matched the Golden Tigers up with the Dragons in an elimination game which proved to be too much to overcome.

TU scored first when Jasmyne Lawrence scored on a passed ball, giving the team a 1-0 lead. Moments later, Kiah Dumas doubled to left center driving in Chelsea Mowery, making the score 2-0. The Golden Tigers increased its lead to 3-0 in the same inning when Alexandria Mason singled through the left side, allowing Shambrinetta Adams to score.

Lane responded with three-run second inning of their own, added another run in the fourth and closed the scoring out with a seven-run fifth inning.

In the first game, Kentucky State jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back downing TU 8-3. Mowery picked up the loss pitching the entire game and allowing eight runs on 12 hits. Four of those runs were unearned.

TU made an attempt at a comeback when Kiah Dumas singled to center field, brining in Shambrinetta Adams and Cecelia Tennessee scored, narrowing the deficit to 5-3.

The Thorobreds added another run in the sixth inning before Tennessee once again scored on a errant throw to second bass.

Howard and Mowery also earned hits in game one.

The Golden Tigers conclude the season with a record of 12-35 overall and a conference mark of 9-10.
