MONTGOMERY, Ala. - In the final regular season series of the season, the Tuskegee University baseball team split its doubleheader with rival Morehouse College Saturday evening at Paterson Field. The Maroon Tigers won game one 8-2 with the Golden Tigers earning the victory in game two by a final of 4-3 in the Sixth Annual Joy to Life Breast Cancer game.
In game two, Christian Marshall was on the mound for TU and surrendered three runs on six hits over six innings, striking out five. Daron Bowling led things off on the hill for Morehouse and allowed four hits and four runs over four and two-thirds innings, striking out four and walking one. Keon Cusic threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Dominic Johnson, Ryan Green, Matthew Reed, and Lane Williams each collected one hit to lead the Golden Tigers. Skegee had its way around the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Green led the way with three. In addition, the Golden Tigers didn't commit a single error in the field. Elgin Woodside had the most chances in the field with six.
In game one, TU struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing MC giving up eight runs. In the first inning, the Maroon Tigers got their offense started when Jason Davis's sac fly scored two runs.
The Golden Tigers evened things up at two in the bottom of the third inning when Gabriel Selochan singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. Morehouse would respond when they scored three runs in the seventh inning.
Anthony Dodd was on the mound for Morehouse and asted five and a third innings, allowing three hits and two runs while striking out five. Trey Nelson toed the rubber for TU He surrendered five runs on four hits over five innings, striking out five. Nytorious Cooler threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Dominic Johnson, Joshua Lewis, Matthew Reed, and Selochan all had one hit to lead the Golden Tigers.
Tuskegee and Morehouse will close out its three-game slate tomrrow with Morehouse in a single game that starts at 1 p.m. at Paterson Field on Senior Day in Montgomery (Ala.)
