Tiffany Fairchild's two RBI homerun in the top half of the seventh inning lifted Spring Hill College over the Tuskegee University softball team in Sunday's finale of a three-game slate at the TU Softball Field. The near upset would have handed the Badgers their first defeat in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play.
Trailing 9-7 in the top of the seventh inning,
Jasmyne Lawrence scored on an RBI from
Chelsea Mowery narrowing TU's deficit to 9-8. The Golden Tigers would take its first lead of the game one batter later when
Cecelia Tennessee doubled to left center driving in
Sierra Smith and
Sommer Fitzpatrick.
Ashley Tyler dropped to 3-9 on the season picking up the loss for the Golden Tigers. She pitched 6.1 innings and allowed 11 runs on 13 hits.Â
Tennessee was 3-of-4 on the day with four RBI and one run scored. Mowery earned two hits while
Kyah Dumas, Lawrence and Smith all notched one hit each. TU left eight runners on base.
Tuskegee (4-29, 2-8) will travel to Mississippi Wednesday for a doubleheader with Jackson State. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.  Â
