James Eads made two free throws with 20 seconds left to put Tuskegee ahead by two points 57-55 but it would not be enough to survive late second heroics as Lane College defeated the Golden Tigers in an overtime thriller 66-62 Saturday night in Jackson Tennessee.
TU led for the majority of the second half, taking a one-point lead with just under a minute to go, only to lose that lead a mere 24 seconds later. After a Golden Tiger free throw extended the lead to two, Lane College had a chance to win it with a three. The three from the wing was long but, Kendarius Ash tipped back in the ball as the buzzer sounded, forcing overtime. Lane College made the most of the extra frame, outscoring TU in OT 9-5.
Dragons head coach
Bryanth Basemore said that play just epitomizes the type of player Ash is.
Eads led the Golden Tigers with 19 points and five rebounds.
Myles Thomas added 17 points while
Daniel Roach chipped in 12 points, all three pointers.
Ash finished with a season-high 27 points and 27 rebounds. He also had seven assists, one block and one steal.
Brandon Dansoh dropped in 11 points and
Ai'Shontis Sanders added 10 including a big 3-pointer to give the Dragons a four-point lead at the beginning of overtime.
The Golden Tigers will play at LeMoyne Owen College in Memphis Monday evening with a tip off that is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
