Montevallo's Nautika Philpot scored with two seconds left in the game and the Tuskegee University women's basketball team fell short at home 48-46 Saturday afternoon at Chappie James Arena in the second meeting between the two schools. The win gave the Falcons the season sweep as they also played each other last month.
In a game that appeared to be favoring Tuskegee most of the way, The Falcons found themselves playing from behind and stealing the lead before time expired in both halves. Skegee led by as many as seven points before half time, but a Jennifer Andrew layup with 1:08 sent the Golden Tigers into the locker room trailing by one point 21-20. The same trend continued into the second half after TU built its largest lead of the game at 10 points in the third period. Montevallo would not go away. With the game tied at 44-44, an Aaliyah Rice layup gave the Falcons their first lead of the half with 2:58 remaining in the contest.  Despite a pair of game tying
Alexis Carter free throws with 27 seconds remaining, TU would never lead again. After Philpot's game-winner, Carter attempted a jumper as time expired that fell short.
Carter was held four points shy of her scoring average finishing with 14 points and 14 rebounds. It marked her seventh double-double in nine games.
Normesha Pitts added nine points and eight rebounds with
India Blakely chipping in eight points.
TU only shot 29 percent from the field including a 2-of-10 mark from three point range.
The Golden Tigers will have all of next week off before hosting Fort Valley State Saturday Dec. 15 at 1 p.m.
