Women's basketball has its five-game win streak snapped by Argos

The Tuskegee University women's basketball team had its five-game winning streak snapped by the University of West Florida Wednesday afternoon in a 78-55 non-conference loss in Pensacola, Fla. The mid-morning matchup halted the team's longest winning streak since the 2011-12 season.

After the first period, TU only found themselves trailing by two points 19-17, but struggled to manufacture much offensively the rest of the way, getting outscored in the second  period 21-11. The Argos opened the period with a three pointer by Belle Bristow and a layup by Toni Brewer. The Golden Tigers allowed its opponent to further pull away creating a 12-point deficit at the half 40-28

Alexis Carter scored a game-high 23 points and seven rebounds to pace Skegee. She was the only player between both the two teams to reach the 20-point plateau. Eleana Daniesla and Shelle Daniels each added nine points apiece while India Blakely chipped in seven.

Despite TU outscoring UWF in points in the paint (19-8), the Argos dominated from points off the bench 22-3 and fast break points (12-2).

The shooting percentages between the two schools also proved to make a difference with TU only shooting 32 percent from the field and 20 percent from three point range. The Argos connected on 11 three point shots for 65 percent on the day.

Tuskegee returns to action Saturday when the host the University of Montevallo at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed live via the Tuskegee Digital Network
