Tuskegee (26-24, 25-23, 25-21, 25-13)
The Tuskegee University Volleyball team handed Clark Atlanta a 3-1 loss Monday afternoon in first round action of the 2018 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. The win sets the Golden up with an evening match against Spring Hill College and gets the Golden Tigers to advance past day one of the tournament for the first time since 2016.
In game one, the Golden Tigers had four to finish with double figures Kills.
Crystal Hall paced the team with 16 kills,
Takeba Dowden added 12, while
Taliyana Bryant and
Cyrani Butler added 11 each. Bryant also led TU with 20 digs in the afternoon match. Briana Fisher was the team leader in assist with a game-high 27.
The Golden Tigers outscored the Panthers 74.0 to 48.5
Spring Hill College (12-25, 11-25, 14-25)
In game two, Tuskegee fell in straight sets to Spring Hill College 3-0. The loss Monday evening sends Skegee to the losers bracket in an elimination game that is set for Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m. against Paine College. Bryant and Butler paced the team in their second match with a team-high seven kills apiece, but the Golden Tigers struggled with their offensive attack, connecting on only 12 percent of its hits.
Butler also led TU with 10 digs while
Taliyana Bryant and
Syncere Ellis added seven each. The team's assist leaders were Kiah Vanhoose (8) and Briana Fisher (7).
