The Tuskegee University men's basketball team won its second straight game of the season with a 55-51 win over Claflin University Thursday night at the Chappie James Center. The win over the former SIAC, now CIAA opponent splits the season series between the two schools.
Kaleb Morton scored a game-high 19 points for the Golden Tigers including a three pointer in the closing moments that gave his team the lead for good. In fact, TU shot a sizzling 40 percent from beyond the arc, connecting on 10-of-25 from three point range, while the Panthers struggled shooting only shooting 12 percent from long range.
Two other players scored in double-figures with
Myles Thomas adding 14 points while
Riley Hamilton poured in 13 points to go along with six rebounds. Thomas has now scored in double figures four out of the team's six outings.
Joshua Culver led Skegee in rebounds with seven on the night.
Tuskegee held its biggest lead of the game at the 14:23 mark when they led 12-3. A sequence that included a pair of three pointers from Morton and Thomas respectively. TU went into the break with a 28-22 lead, but the Golden Tigers got outscored by two points, 29-27 in the second half, which would be enough to hold on and improve Skegee's record to (2-4, 1-0).
The Golden Tigers will have the weekend off before returning to action Monday for a rematch with Auburn-Montgomery. Tip-off from Montgomery is set for 7 p.m.
