Jade Wilson topped her season high 22 points scored Thursday night against Benedict with a 24-point, 14-rebound effort in a 83-62 loss at Claflin Saturday afternoon in Oragngeburg, S.C. The defeat drops the Golden Tigers to 2-12 and 1-5.
Dominique Williams scored a career/game-high 26 points to lead the Panthers wo improved who improved to 10-7 overall and 7-2 in league play
Also hitting double-digits for the Lady Panthers were
Joy Okeke and
Jhanice Stokes with 10 points each.
Zakera Chadmon,
Ashley Fields and
Deja Dickens had nine points apiece for Claflin. Chadmon also dished out a team-high five assists.
After trailing the Lady Panthers increased 38-35 at halftime , the Golden Tigers watched the league increase to 50-39 with 2:51 remaining by scoring 12 of the first 18 points to start the third quarter.
The Lady Panthers fought off a stubborn Tuskegee team in the third by outscoring the Lady Tigers 19-9. The scoring run gave Claflin a 57-42 advantage heading into the fourth quarter. In the first quarter, most the scoring was done by Wilson for Tuskegee and Okeke for Claflin. The two combined for over half of the points scored in the quarter. Wilson was instrumental for TU in the first quarter with 11 points. Okeke had eight in the quarter for the Lady Panthers. Wilson capped off an 11-4 run for Tuskegee with a basket, giving the Lady Tigers a 19-13 lead with 1:09 on the clock in the opening period. Claflin scored the final four points of the quarter to trial by a bucket, 19-17.
The second quarter saw Williams score 15 points, including a three-pointer to tie the contest 22-22 at the 7:06 mark. The basket started a 10-2 run for the Lady Panthers which gave Claflin the 29-24 lead with just over seven minutes left in the period.
The contest would be tied twice over the last four minutes of the quarter before Claflin took a 38-33 lead at the half.
Tuskegee travels to Frankfurt Kentucky to take on Kentucky State Saturday, Jan. 13. Tip off is set for 12:00 p.m.
