Tuskegee handles LeMoyne Owen, snaps five game skid

The Tuskegee University women's basketball team snapped a five game losing streak defeating LeMoyne Owen College Saturday afternoon at Chappie James Arena en route to a 68-54 win for their first home game of the new year.

DonShelle Daniels scored 14 of her 18 points in the first half and the Golden Tigers never looked back. She also added 10 rebounds on the day earning her first double-double of the year.  Cheyenne Williams followed close behind with a 14 point eight rebound effort, Taylor Miller chipped in 12 points with Ashiala Jackson pouring in eight points and 13 boards.

Tuskegee forced 14 first half turnovers and shot a season high 57 percent from three point range converting on 4-of-7 attempts before the break. The Magicians would finish with 23 turnovers allowing the Golden Tigers to score 19 points as a result.   TU also outscored its opponent 36-14 in the paint.

 The Golden Tigers, who once led by as many as 24 converted on 20 fast break points and 11 second chance points. 

TU led 9-7 with 5:19 left to play in the first half before going on a 7-2 run that included a pair of steals and layups by Daniels capped off by a three pointer by Miller.

Dana Gettis paced LOC with a game high 25 points. Asha Stegall had a game high nine assist for the TU.

The Golden Tigers remain at home Monday hosting Lane College in a double-header that starts at 5 p.m.
