FINDLAY, Ohio – Tuskegee University suffered its worst defeat under the
Willie Slater era Saturday afternoon at the University of Findlay falling 61-0 at Donnell Stadium.
The Golden Tigers gave up nine first half touchdowns and found themselves trailing 55-0 at halftime. It was the largest deficit TU has seen since falling behind in last year's second round playoff game at North Greenville 35-7.
The Golden Tigers (2-2, 1-0) allowed a score on every possession of the first half starting with a Michael Campbell four yard plunge. The point after touchdown failed making 6-0 early. Five minutes later, Andrew Ogletree found Rhys Gervais on a 16-yard TD pass extending the lead 13-0.
Malcolm Vigille came off of the bench and efficiently completed four of his six passing attempts for 69 yards. He also rushed the ball five times for 23 yards.
Javarrius Cheatham caught four passes for 65 yards with a long of 22 yards.
Osband Thompson led TU defensively with 15 tackles including 13 unassisted, but the Golden Tigers surrendered a season high 581 yards of total offense on 72 plays. Daouda Sylla ran for a game high 148 yards for the Oilers on 15 carries along with a pair of scores on the ground. Gervais passed for 261 yards and tossed a pair of touchdowns of his own for Findlay (3-1, 0-0).
Dalton Hall had a productive day punting for Tuskegee totaling 226 yards on five punts, averaging 45.2 per punt. His longest was a 59 yarder and landed two inside the 20 yard line.
The Golden Tigers struggled to generate yards offensively finishing with only 169 and six first downs to Findlay's 30.
TU travels to Jackson, Tenn next Saturday to face Lane. The kick is set for 2 p.m. with
