2017 (Senior): Selected as a first team linebacker on the 2017 American Football Coaches Association All-America Team. The announcement was released Wednesday morning by the AFCA. The Miami, Florida native is the only player from an Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to earn a spot on the list.
Thompson finished 2017 with 131 tackles, the second most in the nation. This mark is also 35 stops better than the second leading tackler in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC). He notched 6.5 tackles for loss (TFL), made four interceptions, four quarterback hurries, two broken up passes, a pair of forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. In eight of the teams 10 games, Thompson made a minimum of 10 tackles.
During week two against Albany State, he finished with a season high 16 tackles. He is the first linebacker in 10 years to lead the team in tackles and interceptions in the same season. His production also led his team to a 2017 SIAC Football Championship.
2016 (Junior): Led the team in tackles with 137..69 solos and 68 assist....Finished with 11.5 TFL for -84 yards including 3.5 sacks for -34 yards...Also had three Quarterback hurries, broke up four passes and one interception...Had a career high 16 tackles and 3.5 sacks against Clark Atlanta Nov. 3.
