TUSKEGEE, Ala. - The Tuskegee University women's basketball team defeated Auburn University Montgomery to pick up their third straight victory with a score of 71-55 at Chappie James Arena Monday night in non-conference action.
Three Tigerettes finished in double figures on the evening which included Rachel Brownlee and Teja Finley who finished with 15 points, and Jaylnn Estrada with 14.
Tuskegee had a good shooting night as they had 40.3 (25-of-62) percent shooting from the field and 26.1 (6-of-23) percent from beyond the arc. They also had a good evening at the free throw line shooting 71.4% (15-of-21) percent.
The Tigerettes found themselves trailing for most of the first quarter. The Lady Warhawks opened up the game with a three pointer in the corner by Kaylan Withrow. Soon the Tigerettes would get themselves on the board after a pair of free shows by Asha Stegall. As the quarter came to a close the Tigerettes would be trailing 17-11.
As the second quarter began play, the Tigerettes would find the answer in the second quarter when they got a three-pointer from Jalynn Estrada to make it 17-14. The Tigerettes would continue to battle against the Warhawks as they eventually would pick up the lead for the first time all evening following a jumper by Jade Wilson. The Tigerettes battled back and forth with AUM for the remainder of the half as they would finish the first half with a four point lead 36-32.
As the game resumed play in the second half the Tigerettes stormed back of out the locker room as they opened the half pushing themselves to a nine point lead. In the third the Tigerettes didn't skip a beat as they would finish the third quarter with a 16 point lead 58-42
Tuskegee would continue to maintain a double digit lead for the remainder of the game as the lowest lead of the 4th quarter would be 12 points and they cruised to their 10th win on the season.
Tuskegee hits the road Saturday for a conference matchup against Fort Valley State University, with tip set for 1:00 pm (est).
