Tigerettes fall to Fort Valley State on the road

Tuskegee returns to action Monday against Albany State

FORT VALLEY, Ga. - Due in large part to Shekiya Tarpkins' 30 points, the Tigerettes' winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Fort Valley State Wildcats Saturday night, 77-65.

Tuskegee got to the free throw line often and took advantage of the opportunities by making 71.0 percent (22-of-31) of their shots. However, they didn't fare as well from floor as they ended the game hitting 34.5 percent (19-of-55) from the field and 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from beyond the arc.

The visiting Tigerettes grabbed the lead once in the opening period, but the Lady Wildcats controlled the quarter behind the scoring duo of and Daknqua White. Once the opening quarter came to a close the Tigerettes faced a double digit deficit, 24-12.

As the second quarter began, the Tigerettes would continue to struggle against the Lady Wildcats who continued the same dominance by opening the quarter with a three pointer by Tarpkins to increase the lead to 15 points. Fort Valley continued to control the remainder of the half as they increased their double digit lead to 45-28.

In the second half, the Tigerettes couldn't overcome the deficit against Fort Valley State as they continued to have a hot shooting night from the field. The dominance of Tarpkins and White proved to be too much as they scored a combined 52 points.

Rachel Brownlee was the only Tigerette to finish in double figures scoring 25 points.

The Tigerettes have just two games remaining in the regular season before they head to Birmingham for the SIAC Basketball Tournament, February 27-March 4.

The Tigerettes will continue their short road trip to play against Albany State on Monday at 5:30 EST for their final regular season road game.
