The Tuskegee University women's basketball team allowed the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) to make 11 three pointers en route to a 105-50 defeat from Bartow Arena Saturday evening
Entering the game averaging a Conference USA best 40.5 percent shooting from the field, UAB made three out of their first five three pointers to open up a 15-2 lead before the first media time out. Deanna Kuzmanic converted on two of those from beyond the arc for the Blazers.
After the first period, the Blazers led 24-10 with Shelle Daniels scoring seven of TU's first 10 points, but would not score for the remainder of the game. Trailing 41-15 with 2:57 left to play in the second quarter, Tuskegee (2-9, 1-3) went on a quick 8-0 run capped off by a Mya Parker three pointer with 42 seconds remaining before the quarter expired.
An Imani Johnson layup and a jumper by Trista Magee gave UAB (11-2) a 45-22 lead at the break. Kuzmanic led all scorers with 25 points. Four other players scored in double figures for the Blazers.
Jade Wilson was the lone TU player in double figures finishing with 11 points to go along with five rebounds. Taylor Miller added seven points for the Golden Tigers
Leading 54-30 midway through the third quarter, UAB opened things up with a 17-3 run ending the period and creating a commanding 74-35 deficit for the Golden Tigers
Saturday night's game would be the final non-conference contest before returning back to conference play hosting Paine College New Year's Day. The double-header along with the men is set for 1:30 p.m. Monday afternoon at Chappie James Arena.
