PENSACOLA, Fla. - West Florida scored the first 16 points in a non-conference game against Tuskegee Thursday evening in Pensacola, Fla. and the Golden Tigers never recovered falling to Argonauts 86-54 from the UWF Arena. The loss handed TU its third consecutive defeat.
The Golden Tigers did not make a basket until a Donshelle Daniels layup at the 4:01 mark of the first quarter. West Florida (4-2, 0-0) scored 32 points off of 27 Tuskegee (1-6, 0-1) with the UWF outscoring the TU 12-5 in fast break points.
Tuskegee would cut the deficit down to 10 points with 47 seconds left before halftime, but a pair of free throws from Halee Nieman put UWF back up by 12 points, 24-12 which is what the score was at the break.
The Golden Tigers didn't have a single player score in double figures as Teja Finley and Jade Wilson each scored eight points apiece. Wilson also hauled in nine rebounds. Daniels added seven points while Ashiala Jackson, Kierra Hall, and Alexus Shirrells chipped in six points each. Shirrells also led the team with five assists.
The Argonauts were led by Counrtney Meyer who scored 13 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Halee Nieman led all scorers with 15 points.
Tuskegee will return home to host Spring Hill College in a double-header with its men's team Saturday, Dec. 2. Live coverage starts at 12:55 p.m. with the tip off set for 1 p.m.
