Women's basketball fall short in conference opener

Jade Wilson scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds but it wasn't enough to survive Clark Atlanta Monday night in the team's conference opener falling 62-57 at Chappie James Arena.

Naomi Holloway scored a game high 19 points to lead the CAU to its fourth win of the season and a 2-0 start in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play. They're best start in the league since 2013.

The Golden Tigers fell behind early, trailing by as many as 14 points twice in the first half, the second time after a Marissa Mandeldove jumper with 5:04 remaining before the break made the score 28-14.

In the second half, Tuskegee (1-5, 0-1 SIAC) outscored the Lady Panthers, erasing a double-digit deficit and cutting the CAU's lead to three points with seven seconds remaining.  But Holloway hit two free throws in the final seconds to put the game away.

Donshelle Daniels was the only other player in double figures for TU, who scored 12 points and hauled in six rebounds.

The Golden Tigers travel to Pensacola, Fla. for a Thursday evening game with the University of West Florida. Live coverage wiil start at 5:25 on the Tuskegee Digital Network
