Second half woes cost Golden Tigers against Blazers

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee University men's basketball team got outscored in the second half 41-31 and surrendered 20 second half points en route to a 75-61 loss against Valdosta State Saturday afternoon from Chappie James Arena.
 
TU trailed 34-30 at halftime and only led for 5:26 minutes of the game versus 29:23 for Valdosta State (3-0).  Tuskegee (0-4) also struggled in the rebounding category getting doubled up 45-28 on the boards.
 
Gregg Boyd led the Golden Tigers, scoring 18 of the team's 22 points off the bench including 5-of-9 from three-point range. James Eads also scored in double figures with 13 points and four assists. Myles Thomas chipped in eight points while Thomas Massey pull down eight rebounds.
 
Entering the game, Blazers guard Beau Justice was shooting 75 percent making a total of 10 three pointers. Saturday, he was held to 0-for-5 and only 12 points.  As a team, TU held VSU to 20 percent from downtown, their lowest shooting percentage this season.
 
Tyrone Sam picked up the slack scoring a game high 20 points for the Blazers.  KJ James finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds for VSU.
 
Tuskegee will take on Auburn-Montgomery (AUM) Tuesday in a double-header with the women.  The Golden Tigerettes will tipoff at 6:00 p.m. with the men to follow shortly after. Live coverage for both games on the Tuskegee Digital Network starts at 5:55 p.m.
