Tuskegee nipped by AUM

Jade Wilson scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, but the Tuskegee University women's basketball team could not hold on falling to AUM Saturday night in Montgomery 61-58 in its season opener.

Trailing for the majority of the opening quarter, the Warhawks took their first lead of the frame with 2:55 remaining off a three pointer from Bullard to make it 8-7. The triple sparked a quarter-ending 10-2 run that put AUM ahead 15-9. AUM led by as many as 10 in the second quarter, using a jumper from redshirt sophomore center Bailee Wolfe to make it 22-12 before six-straight points by Tuskegee cut the separation to four at 22-18.

Taylor Miller scored notched double figures with 11 points while Teja Finley pulled down a team high eight rebounds.

The Warhawks responded with a 6-2 run to recreate an eight-point advantage at 28-20, but TU ended the half on a 9-0 run, including a pair of free throws with two seconds on the clock, to go into halftime with a 29-28 lead.  Tuskegee carried the momentum into the second half, creating a five-point lead at 35-30 before a 9-4 run by the Warhawks knotted up the score at 39-all. AUM took its first lead of the quarter with 1:30 left in the frame after a pair of free throws from Wolfe made it 45-44, but a Golden Tiger layup flipped the one-point lead.

TU allowed AUM to opened the final quarter with back-to-back three pointers to create a five-point lead at 51-46. The Golden Tigers managed to knot up the score at 55-all, but a Lee layup and two free throws recreated a four-point cushion at 59-57.

Tuskegee faces Montevallo Sunday afternoon with the tip off set for 3:30 p.m.
