TUSKEGEE, Ala. – The Tuskegee University women's basketball team picked up another conference victory, defeating Albany State University 72-58 at Chappie James Arena Monday night.
Rachel Brownlee led three Tigerettes in double figures, leading the way with 19 points, while
Taylor Miller added 13 and
Asha Stegall 10.
Tuskegee finished the night shooting 39.0 (27-of-69) percent from the field, and 50.0 (3-of-6) from beyond the arc. They also shot a perfect 14-of-14 from the free throw line.
Early on, the two teams battled basket for basket with Albany State's Alexandria James pouring in nine points. The Lady Golden Rams came out with an early push lead by Trya Thompson, who finished the night with 10 rebounds and six points. Tuskegee found iself down by 10 points going into the second quarter.
As the second quarter began, the Tigerettes made another push to trim the lead down as they found success with Stegall and some wonderful passing that created points for the Tigerettes. The second quarter came to a close they were trailing by five points 34-29.
In the second half, Tuskegee battled back with 21 points in the third quarter, led by Brownlee and Miller. The Tigerettes would continue to pull away for the remainder of the half to pick up their eighth victory of the season.
Tuskegee hits the road for the next contest on February 4 as they take on Miles College in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play.
