JACKSON, Tenn. | The Tuskegee University women's basketball team was able to overcome a slow start and ended a six-game losing streak, defeating Lane College 50-38 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action Saturday afternoon.
Rachel Brownlee led Tuskegee (6-11, 2-6 SIAC) with a game-high 20 points and seven rebounds as the Tigerettes were able to outscore Lane 34-18 in the second half of the contest to come away with the victory.
Although Brownlee was the only player in double figures for the Tigerettes, junior
Cheyanne Williams added seven points and seven rebounds in the win. Tuskegee finished the night shooting 33.3 (16-of-48) percent from the floor and 33.3 (3-of-9) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 65.2 (15-of-23) percent from the free throw line, while forcing 20 turnovers.
Tashara Jones led Lane (6-11, 5-3 SIAC) with 11 points and eight rebounds, while the Dragons finished the night shooting just 24.5 (12-of-49) percent from the floor and just 6.7 (1-of-15) percent from beyond the arc in the loss.
Tuskegee returns to action Monday night against LeMoyne-Owen with tip set for 5:30 pm in Memphis.
