OZARK, Ala. | After hitting his first collegiate homerun 87 days ago,
Elgin Woodside hit his third homerun of season on the first pitch in the bottom of the 11th inning giving Tuskegee a 9-8 victory over Kentucky State University in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Tournament Saturday afternoon.
Tuskegee (13-28) founds itself down 8-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning before they scored four runs in the inning to send the game to extra innings, and setting the stage for Woodside.
Lane Williams led off the ninth inning with a double down the left field line, before
Gemini Jackson pushed Williams to third with a single through the left side. Following a
Miles Martin walk to load the bases,
Jalen Luter drove in a pair of runs with a triple to trim the deficit to 8-6, before Woodside drove in Williams with a sacrifice fly and trimmed the deficit to 8-7.
Joseph Mauldin was inserted into the game as a pinch-hitter, driving in Luter to tie the game at 8-all.
After both teams failed to score, Woodside stepped to the plate in the bottom of the 11th inning and drove the ball over the left field wall, and sending Tuskegee into the late game Saturday night against Miles.
Stanley Smith (1-0) picked up the win with five innings of scoreless relief for Tuskegee. The senior gave up just one hit and struck out five.
Luter finished the game 4-for-4 and just a double short of the cycle. He scored a pair of runs and drove in four.

Alexander Henderson, Jackson and Woodside each picked up a pair of hits.
Tuskegee faces Miles College in an elimination game at 9 pm Saturday night at historic Eagle Stadium.
