MONTEVALLO, Ala. | The Tuskegee University baseball team wrapped up the pre-conference schedule Wednesday afternoon, dropping a pair of games to Montevallo. The Golden Tigers dropped game one 11-5, and fell in game two 9-3.
In the opener, the Golden Tigers jumped on top early in the contest as they grabbed a 3-1 lead in the top of the second inning. After they loaded the bases with a pair of singles and hit by pitch,
Travais Hylton came through at the plate as he laced a pitch down the leftfield line for a bases-clearing double.
Unfortunately for the Golden Tigers, Montevallo scored a pair of runs in the third before adding four in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Tuskegee added a pair of runs in the seventh on an RBI groundout by
Ricky Green, and an RBI single by
Gemini Jackson.
Samuel Glickman, Green and Jackson each collected a pair of hits; while Green,
Ryan Green,
Clinton Crews and Hylton all picked up extra base hits for Tuskegee.
Eugene Mabota (0-1) suffered the loss, working 3.1 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) off of four hits. He also struck out three.
In the nightcap, the Golden Tigers fell behind early thanks to a four-run second inning. Montevallo scored all of their runs in the second, third, and fourth innings en route to the sweep.
Tuskegee was able to get on the board in the second inning when
Matthew Reed hit his second homerun in as many games to lead off the inning. They added to more in the seventh when Glickman connected for a two-run single that drove in Hylton who had stolen two bases during the at-bat.
Glickman was the lone player with multiple hits in game two as he went 2-for-4 in the loss.
Christian Marshall (0-1) suffered the loss in game two, working two innings and allowing four runs off of four hits.
The Golden Tigers return to action this weekend, opening Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon against Kentucky State University. The series starts with a doubleheader on Saturday at Paterson Field, beginning at 12 noon.
