FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. | The Tuskegee University baseball team dropped a pair of 9-0 decisions to Nova Southeastern University Saturday afternoon at the NSU Baseball Complex, ending a three-game series against the Sharks.
Nova Southeastern (6-5) held Tuskegee (2-8) to just two hits in the opener, while collecting 11 of their own including a pair of homeruns.
The Sharks jumped ahead early off of Tuskegee starter
Joseph Mauldin (1-2) with a two-run homerun off the bat of Brandon Gomez. They added another run off of a solo homerun by Michael Hernandez in the second and one in the third, before pushing three across in the fifth inning to seal the win.
Mauldin suffered the loss, going five innings and allowing eight runs off of seven hits while striking out seven.
Jordyn Thomas came on to work the final three innings, allowing one run off of four hits while striking out one.
The Golden Tigers got hits from
Samuel Glickman and Tampa-native
Ricky Green in the opener, with Green breaking up the no-hit bid of Nova Southeastern starter Matt Hardy (2-0) in the fifth inning.
In the nightcap, Nova Southeastern pushed five runs across in the second inning off Tuskegee starter
Daniel Croom (1-1) before sealing it with a pair of homeruns late in the contest.
Croom went 2.1 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) off of five hits with one strikeout. Green came on in relief and went 1.2 innings, allowing one run off of two hits; while
Clayton Crews worked the final two innings in relief.
Tuskegee was held to five hits, but
Clinton Crews picked up three of those as finished 3-for-3 on the day. Glickman and
Christian Marshall picked up the other hits for Tuskegee.
The Golden Tigers return to action against Morehouse in a doubleheader on Tuesday in Atlanta. First pitch is scheduled for 12 noon.
