COLUMBUS, Ga. | The Tuskegee University softball dropped a pair of games at the Cougar Classic, their final road game before opening up at home on Tuesday afternoon.
In the day's first game Lincoln Memorial (1-3) used a three-run second inning to pull away for a 4-0 victory over Tuskegee.
Lincoln Memorial used to pitchers, combining to allow just three hits to Tuskegee in the game, and used six hits to score their four runs.
Cari Driver,
Haley Plato and
Chante Warner were able to reach base via a hit for the Lady Golden Tigers in game one.
Acey Spence suffered the loss in game, going the distance and allowing four runs off of six hits while striking out three.
In the nightcap, Tuskegee fell to ninth-ranked Georgia College 12-2 in six innings in the Cougar Classic finale.
Tuskegee (0-9) jumped ahead of Georgia College with three quick runs in the first inning.
Cari Driver led the game off reaching on error and advanced to second when
Roneshia Rudolph successfully reached first on a bunt. Both runners advanced when
Adrienne Eaddy drew a walk, before
Karisa Foye drove in Driver and Rudolph. The final run scored when
Kaylin Finch recorded a RBI groundout to short.
Georgia College (8-0) answered with a single run in the first and third, and trailed 4-3 after four innings. However, the Bobcats were able to plate nine in the bottom of the sixth inning to record the win.
Rudolph finished the game 2-for-2 with a pair runs scored, wile four players picked up a hit each in the loss. Spence (0-2) suffered the loss, working 5.1 innings and allowing all 12 runs.
Tuskegee returns to action Tuesday afternoon as they will play their first home game of the season, hosting the University of West Georgia in a doubleheader beginning at 12 noon.
