Tuskegee wins third straight game

James Eads and Austin Cherry in double figures in victory

TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University men's basketball claimed their third consecutive victory Saturday afternoon, defeating Albany State 79-55 in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) action at Chappie James Arena.
 
With just two games remaining on the schedule, the Golden Tigers sit percentage points behind Kentucky State for fourth in the West Division heading into the SIAC Tournament.
 
James Eads led Tuskegee (13-10, 9-7 SIAC) with 15 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the free throw line, while Austin Cherry added 12 points off the bench. Elijah McMillan, James Vinson and Daniel Roach each added nine points for the Golden Tigers.
 
Thomas Massey grabbed a game-high, and career-high, 10 rebounds in the win.
 
Tuskegee shot 43.1 (25-of-58) percent from the floor and 45 (9-of-20) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 64.5 (20-of-31) percent from the free throw line, while forcing 12 Albany State turnovers.
 
The Golden Tigers took their biggest lead of the game at 30 with 9:16 to play in the game, and outscored the Golden Rams 28-24 in the paint. The Golden Tigers also outscored Albany State 40-26 off the bench, while scoring 13 points off turnovers in the win.
 
Khaliq Hughes paced four Albany State (5-20, 3-13 SIAC) players in double figures with 13, while Devontay Ward added 12 and Keldreion Miller 11.
 
Malik Dungee contributed 10 for the Golden Rams, who were held to 32.8 (19-of-58) percent shooting from the floor and 18.8 (3-of-16) percent from beyond the arc.
 
Tuskegee returns to action next Saturday against Stillman College with tip set for 3 pm. The day will part of Senior Day and will answer Breast Cancer Awareness Day, in which everyone is encouraged to wear pink.
