TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University basketball programs, fresh off of their Monday victories in conference play, return to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play against Fort Valley State Thursday night.
The women will tip off at 5:30 pm, followed by the men at 7:30 pm at Chappie James Arena.
The Tuskegee (5-16, 4-9) will look to avenge a 59-48 loss in Fort Valley on January 28. In that loss,
Aryana Jackson led the Tigerettes with 13 points and
Rachel Brownlee added 11.
Brownlee continues to lead Tuskegee at 16.8 points and is second on the team at 6.3 rebounds per game this season, which includes a streak of 18 consecutive games in double figures. She has also scored in double figures in 20 out of 21 games this season. Meanwhile, Jackson is averaging 15.7 points per game and is also averaging 2.3 steals per game this season in 10 games.
Uche Ibebunjo leads the team in rebounding at 6.6 rebounds per game, while
Halle Bentley is at 5.9 per game and
Tyler Everett at 5.3.
If the season ended today – although there are four games remaining – Tuskegee would be the sixth seed in the West Division (due to percentage points). In their current position, the Tigerettes would face Claflin in the opening round.
Meanwhile, the Tuskegee (11-10, 7-6 SIAC) men will look for momentum from their Monday night win over Clark Atlanta in which
Austin Cherry recorded a career-high 26 points off the bench.
The Golden Tigers will look to avenge an 84-76 loss to Fort Valley State in which they were held to 35.3 (24-of-68) percent shooting from the floor and 14.3 (4-of-28) percent from beyond the arc. In that game, Tuskegee had just one player in double figures as
Elijah McMillan poured in 28.
This season, freshman
James Eads leads the team in scoring at 11.7 points per game. Senior
Camden Foster is averaging 10.9 points a team-high 6.7 rebounds per game. McMillan is averaging 9.9 points and 5.9 rebounds, while
Kevin May is averaging 7.3 points and 4.8 assists per game.
If the season ended today, Tuskegee would be the fifth seed (one game out of fourth) in the SIAC Tournament and would face Fort Valley State in the opening game.
