Tigerettes win second consecutive road contest

Rachel Brownlee and Taylor Miller combine for 36 points

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Tuskegee University women's basketball team held off a late charge by Auburn Montgomery to win their second consecutive road game 78-71 at the Physical Education Complex Friday night in non-conference action.

Rachel Brownlee and Taylor Miller combined for 36 points for Tuskegee (4-5), who led the game by as many as 23 with 57 seconds to play in the third quarter before a barrage of three-pointers by AUM trimmed the deficit to four at one point during the fourth quarter. The Tigerettes were able to put the game away from the free throw line late in the contest with shots from Brownlee and Miller.

Brownlee finished the night with a game-high 22 points, extending her consecutive double-digit streak to 34 consecutive games dating back to last season. She finished the night 8-of-17 from the floor and 5-of-8 from the free throw line, including hitting her last three. She also added seven rebounds, including five offensive. Meanwhile, Miller finished the night with 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the free throw line to help the Tigerettes put away the contest.

Jade Wilson finished with eight points and seven rebounds off the bench for Tuskegee, while Lena Yoonis added eight points and Cheyanne Williams six rebounds in the win. The Tigerettes shot 40.5 (30-of-74) percent from the floor, while hitting 28.6 (6-of-21) percent from beyond the arc. They also hit 66.7 (12-of-18) percent from the free throw line in the victory, while winning the rebounding battle 48-41.

Grace Farnsworth led AUM (1-7) with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Kaylan Withrow added 13 points and five rebounds. Nadia Stewart added 12 and Aleksandra Trisic 10 for the Warhawks, who shot 40.3 (27-of-67) percent from the floor and 37.5 (9-of-24) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 47.1 (8-of-17) percent from the free throw line.

Tuskegee returns to action December 14 on the road against Clark Atlanta, on a game that can be heard on the Tuskegee Digital Network.
