ATLANTA | The Tuskegee University women's basketball team won their third consecutive contest, and opening Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play with a 74-72 victory over Clark Atlanta University in overtime at L.S. Epps Gymasium Wednesday night.
Tuskegee (5-5, 1-0 SIAC) trailed by as many as 14 in the second half, but fought their way back into the contest and found themselves down by just six with 30 seconds to play when freshman 
Jalynn Estrada hit two of the biggest shots of her career on the final two possessions for the Tigerettes. The freshman knocked down a three with just 29.6 seconds to go to pull Tuskegee within three at 68-65, before Clark Atlanta took an ill-advised shot with just over 10 seconds remaining in regulation giving Tuskegee one more opportunity. The Tigerettes took advantage of the opportunity and Estrada banked home a three-pointer with 0.2 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the game and send it to overtime.
In the extra period, Clark Atlanta took a 71-70 lead with 1:17 to play before 
Cheyanne Williams knocked down a jumper to give the Tigerettes a 72-71 lead with 55 seconds to play. The Tigerettes put the game away when 
Asha Stegall drove the baseline for a lay-up with just 13 seconds to play and sealed the game with a seal.
 
Rachel Brownlee led Tuskegee with a double-double, scoring 18 points and adding 11 rebounds on her way to the her 35th consecutive game in double figures. She was joined in double figures by Estrada and Teja Finley, while 
Jade Wilson and Williams each grabbed seven rebounds. The Tigerettes shot 37.7 (26-of-69) percent from the floor and 31.3 (5-of-16) percent from beyond the arc, while shooting 73.3 (11-of-15) percent from the free throw line and winning the rebounding battle 56-36.
Marissa Mandlelove led Clark Atlanta (4-5, 0-1 SIAC) with 22 points, while Courtney Hall added 15 and Kiyanna Johnson 14.
The overtime win for the Tigerettes is the third for the team this season, all in the state of Georgia (West Georgia and Georgia College were the other two). The Tigerettes will return to action January 2 against Claflin inside Chappie James Arena with tip set for 1 pm on the Tuskegee Digital Network.
