TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University women's basketball team will put their modest two-game winning streak on the line when they travel to Clark Atlanta University to face the Panthers in their Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opener Wednesday night.
Tuskegee (4-5) is fresh off of victories over Georgia College (65-62) in overtime and Auburn-Montgomery (78-71) - both games on the road - and with one more win would equal their win total from all of last season. The game is scheduled to tip off at 6 pm (est) at L.S. Epps Gymnasium on the campus of Clark-Atlanta, and can be heard on the Tuskegee Digital Network beginning with the pregame at 5:45 pm (est).
The trip to the Peach State will be the third time this season for the Tigerettes who have come away with two victories in their previous trips - overtime victories over West Georgia and Georgia College. The game will mark the final road game until mid-January for the Tigerettes, and will be the final game of the 2016 portion of the schedule for Tuskegee who returns to action January 2 at Chappie James Arena.
Rachel Brownlee, the preseason SIAC Player of the Year, leads Tuskegee in scoring and rebounding through the first nine games of the season as she is averaging 19.3 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. The senior joined the 1,000-point club earlier this season against Lynn University, and is just 46 rebounds away from 500 for her career. She also extended her personal streak of games in double figures to 34 (both regular season and exhibition) with her 22 points against Auburn-Montgomery on December 2, as she has scored in double figures in 35 of her last 36 games dating back to last season.
Freshman
Taylor Miller is second on the team in scoring at 12.1 points per game, and is near the top of the conference in three-point field goals attempted with 63. The freshman has scored in double figures eight times this season, with the only time being held from the mark coming against Cameron (11/26/16) when she finished with seven points. She and junior
Jamese Abney have combined to take the most three-pointers of any duo in the conference, attempting 119 of the team's 160 three-pointers this season (Brownlee has attempted 22).
The two teams have split the last four contests, dating back to the 2012-13 season, with each winning two times on their home floor. The two met just one time last season with Tuskegee pulling out a 74-52 victory at Chappie James Arena. The two have played a pair of common opponents in Lynn and Georgia College, and each going 1-1 against the two - however, the results were mixed as each defeated the opposite team.
