CANYON, Texas | The Tuskegee University women's basketball team gave third-ranked West Texas A&M all they handle, and then some, falling late in the contest 70-60 in the Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic hosted by West Texas A&M.
Tuskegee (2-4) outscored West Texas A&M in two quarters on the night, including running out to a 22-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, it was the experience and depth of West Texas A&M that outscored Tuskegee by eight in the final 10 minutes to hold on for the and avoid the upset.
Freshman
Taylor Miller led Tuskegee with 19 points, four rebounds and three steals in the loss. The freshman finished the night connecting on three three-point attempts and finished 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Senior
Rachel Brownlee continued her streak of consecutive games in double figures to 32 with her performance on Friday night, adding 18 points on the night that included hitting 6-of-8 free throws.
Teja Finley added 10 points off the bench for Tuskegee.
The Tigerettes finished the night shooting 39.3 (22-of-56) percent from the floor and 22.2 (4-of-18) percent from beyond the arc, while also hitting 69.6 (16-of-23) percent of their free throws.
Sydney Walton led West Texas A&M (4-1) with 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor, while Alie Decker added 17 and Sasha Watson 10. West Texas A&M finished the night shooting 50 (26-of-52) percent from the floor and 33.3 (6-of-18) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 53.3 (16-of-30) percent from the free throw line, while winning the rebounding battle 36-32.
Tuskegee returns to action Saturday against Cameron in the final game of the Pak-A-Sak WT Thanksgiving Classic with tip set for 7:30 pm.
