Tigerettes open regular season at home in Regional Challenge

Tuskegee will play North Alabama at 5:30 pm Friday

TUSKEGEE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University women's basketball team opens their 2016-17 officially on Friday after two exhibition games, as they take on the University of North Alabama at 5:30 pm as part of the Regional Challenge inside Chappie James Arena Friday evening.

The game will be the first of two on the night in the Regional Challenge, with Claflin and Alabama-Huntsville playing at 7:30 pm Friday night. The tournament concludes with a pair of games on Saturday beginning at 4 pm, following the football game at Cleve L. Abbott Memorial Alumni Stadium.

Tuskegee split two games during the exhibition portion of their schedule as they fell to UAB 88-67, before defeating LaGrange 70-67 at home last Sunday. In those contests, senior Rachel Brownlee - the preseason SIAC Player of the Year - averaged 20 points per game (scoring 20 in both contests). The senior enters the game with a streak of 25 consecutive games in double figures for Tuskegee, with the last game she did not score in double figures coming against North Alabama last season. She is just 74 points away from 1,000 career points, sitting at 926 total points entering the season.

She has been joined in double figures in both games by freshman Taylor Miller averaging 16.5 points per game including 18 on the road against UAB in her first collegiate contest. The freshman has hit nine three-pointers in two games, dished out a pair of assists and recorded four steals in two games. Sophomore Jade Wilson has scored in double figures in both games, averaging 10 points per game. She scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds in her first game in over a year, after transferring from Eastern Michigan at the end of the first semester.

Cheyanne Williams led the team in rebounding in the two exhibition games, averaging 7.5 rebounds per game with eight against LaGrange. Freshman Jalynn Estrada, in for the injured Jesslyn Mahone in the two exhibition games, is averaging 7.5 assists per game through the two exhibition games. She recorded a career-high eight against LaGrange in the three-point victory.

The Tigerettes and North Alabama can be seen on the Tuskegee Digital Network both days of the Regional Challenge.
