Tigerettes fall to Spring Hill in SIAC Opener

Spring Hill pulls away in second and third quarter of contest

MOBILE, Ala. | The Tuskegee University women's basketball team fell behind in the second quarter on Thursday night and they were unable to recover, falling to Spring Hill College 65-38 in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) opener for both teams.

After jumping ahead early in the game and holding a three-point advantage at the end of the first quarter, Tuskegee (1-5, 0-1 SIAC) pushed the lead to five at 16-11 with 9:37 to play in the half. Unfortunately, that is where Spring Hill (2-3, 1-0 SIAC) took over the contest as they went on a 36-7 run over the next 19 minutes and into the second half as they took a commanding 47-23 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Rachel Brownlee led the Tigerettes with 14 points and five rebounds. She finished the night shooting 4-of-21 from the floor and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Although Brownlee was the only player in double figures for Tuskegee, freshman Tyler Everett finished with three points and 10 rebound.

Freshman Uche Ibebunjo responded in her first start as she scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds in the loss.

The Tigerettes shot 20.8 (11-of-53) percent from the floor and missed all 10 of their three-point opportunities. They ended the night shooting 55.2 (16-of-29) percent from the free throw line, while grabbing 42 rebounds.

Meanwhile, Spring Hill was led by Tiffany Valentine with 11 points, while Brittney Davis added nine points and six rebounds. Jennifer Clark and Camry Johnson each added eight points for the Badgers.

Spring Hill finished the night shooting 36.8 (21-of-57) percent from the floor and just 21.1 (4-of-19) percent from beyond the arc. They finished the night shooting 82.6 (19-of-23) percent from the free throw line.

Tuskegee returns to action Saturday evening hosting Columbus State University at Chappie James Arena, with tip scheduled for 5 pm (moved back from its original time of 1 pm).
