Golden Tigers fall on the road to Georgia Southwestern

Tuskegee returns to the road to open conference play Thursday at Spring Hill

AMERICUS, Ga. | Tuskegee University dropped their second consecutive road game Tuesday night, falling to Georgia Southwestern 76-56 at The Storm Dome in non-conference action.

James Eads paced three players in double figures for Tuskegee (4-3) with 12 points, while hitting 5-of-6 free throws. Elijah McMillan added 11 points, while Kevin May added 10 points and three assists.

The Golden Tigers shot 37.8 (17-of-45) percent from the floor and 16.7 (3-of-18) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 65.5 (19-of-29) percent from the free throw line, while forcing 17 Georgia Southwestern turnovers.

Jure Gunjina led Georgia Southwestern with 23 points on 10-of-16 shooting from the floor, while Karon Wright added 16. Adam Thoseby contributed 12 points and eight rebounds.

Georgia Southwestern (4-2) rarely missed a shot from anywhere on the floor en route to shooting 60.5 (26-of-43) percent from the floor and 40 (6-of-15) percent from beyond the arc. They also shot 85.7 (18-of-21) percent from the free throw line while winning rebounding battle 34-24.

The two teams battled toe-to-toe in the first half with Georgia Southwestern clinging to a three-point lead with 1:25 remaining in the half, before McMillan drained a three with just 27 seconds remaining to tie the game at 28-all heading into the break.

The second half started much the same way, with Tuskegee scoring the first five points of the half to extend their run to 8-0. The run was highlighted by an old-fashioned three-point play by Thomas Massey, followed by a pair of free throws by Eads to push the lead to 33-28.

But that is where Georgia Southwestern took over the half, and the game. The 'Canes went on an 19-2 run over the next six minutes to take a 46-35 lead with 11:10 remaining in the game, and Tuskegee was unable to get close in the final minutes of the game.

Tuskegee returns to action Thursday night on the road as they open up Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) play against Spring Hill College. Tip is set for 7:30 pm, or immediately following the women's game, at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
