TUSKEGEE, Ala. | Demetries McNealey led two players in double figures for Tuskegee University, but the Tigerettes could not overcome the hot-shooting from the outside of Georgia College as they fell 60-46 at Chappie James Arena in non-conference action on Monday night.
McNealey led Tuskegee (1-4) with a career-high 21 points, while shooting 7-of-15 from the floor and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. The senior connected on all four of her free throw attempts, while recording three steals in the loss.
Junior
Rachel Brownlee added 14 points and five rebounds, while shooting 5-of-16 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the free throw line.
Tuskegee shot 30 (15-of-50) percent from the floor, while hitting just four three-pointers and shooting 26.7 percent from beyond the arc. The Tigerettes shot 70.6 (12-of-17) percent from the free throw line, while winning the rebounding battled 39-34.
Jumping out to an early lead, the Tigerettes held the lead at the end of third quarter 13-11, but Georgia College (6-1) went on a 19-9 run to take a 60-46 lead at halftime. Mckenna Rushton who poured in 12 of her 21 points in the first half sparked the run.
Rushton finished the night with six three-pointers, while connecting on 7-of-10 shots from the floor on the night for the Bobcats. Kadesha Gibbs added 16 for Georgia College, with nine rebounds.
Trailing by as many as 19 in the second half, Tuskegee continued to cut into the lead in the fourth quarter. They opened the quarter on a 9-2 run following a Rushton three-pointer, trimming the lead to 54-41 behind baskets from McNealey and Brownlee.
After cutting the lead to 10 at 54-44, behind a three-pointer from McNealey with 2:52 to play, Georgia College was able to put the game away with the Tigerettes in foul trouble.
Tuskegee opens conference play on Thursday, traveling to Spring Hill College on Thursday (December 3). The game tips at 5:30 pm in Mobile.
